Frequently asked questions

Slip testing, answered

The questions we’re asked most often about testing floors in Wiltshire. If yours isn’t here, just ask.

How long does a slip test take?

It depends on how many areas you want covered, but most sites are done within an hour or two. We work around your day and there’s no mess and no down-time afterwards.

Do you test wet as well as dry?

Yes — and the wet result is the important one, because that’s when floors cause slips. Where a particular contaminant such as oil or soap is the real issue, we can reflect that too.

What counts as a pass?

A Pendulum Test Value of 36 or above is regarded as a low slip risk — about a one-in-a-million chance of a slip. Between 25 and 35 is borderline; 24 or below needs action.

How quickly do we get the report?

Normally two to three working days after the visit. You get a PTV for each area, a clear verdict and practical recommendations, written so it stands up to an inspector, insurer or solicitor.

Is the pendulum the right test for our floor?

For almost all indoor pedestrian floors, yes — it’s the method the HSE recommends. We’ll tell you honestly if a surface needs a different or additional approach.

Are you independent and accredited?

We’re a UKAS-accredited testing firm and we don’t sell flooring or treatments, so the result you get reflects the floor, not a sales target.

Can you test stairs, ramps and outdoor surfaces?

Yes. Steps, ramps, thresholds and external paving are common slip hotspots and we test them with the appropriate slider and method.

Do you cover the whole of Wiltshire?

We do — Salisbury, Swindon, Trowbridge, Chippenham, Devizes, Marlborough and everywhere between. Just send a postcode with your enquiry.

What does a test cost?

It’s priced on the number of areas and your location, so we give you a fixed quote up front with no obligation. Send the floor type and rough size and we’ll come back with a figure.

Our floor failed — what now?

A low score can often be fixed without replacing the floor — frequently just by changing the cleaning regime. See our anti-slip solutions page, and we’ll re-test once any work is done.
